The Fourth Folder...

I've been tagged by VioletSky to dig into my files and tell the story behind the fourth photo in the forth file...and what do I have to show but another picture from  Maine.   I got my first digital camera seven years ago,  just before one of our annual vacations to Maine...My filing system is very simple...I still have one file for every single day that I have taken a picture...so this is from the file of  2002_08_07.  There were only five pictures in the file, all taken from the dock of our friends' pond-side cabin, but the fourth picture is my favorite.  It was obviously taken by Mr O since it is of me with both my as yet unmarried daughters...laughing as the sun sets...glass of wine in hand...This picture makes me feel happy...

...and since there are only five photos in the the whole file I thought I would make a mosaic and join the fun at the Little Red House ...

Instead of tagging four more blogs I'm afraid  I will just ask that anyone who is interested to please join in...

Maine 5...

It has already been a month since our family trip to Maine and I'm still reminiscing...I did take many, many photos during a ferry trip from Southwest Harbor on Mount Desert to Islesford...The ferry leaves every two hours from Southwest Harbor Upper Town Dock.

Maine 3…

Frenchman’s Bay in Hancock, Maine  is much quieter and flatter than Mount Desert Island …Mr O and I went there for a quiet hike through woods and along the shore…and found many textures…

Blueberry Cobbler…

The Fannie Farmer Cookbook was to me what Mastering the Art of French Cooking was to Julie in the movie “Julie and Julia”.  I didn’t try to cook every recipe but it was the cookbook I learned to cook from…IMG_9005

My name and the date it was given to me is written in my mother’s hand on the endpaper…

IMG_9002

…The pages I have frequently used are well spattered…

IMG_8980-1

…and this is one of my favorite recipes.  It has lots of butter which seems perfectly alright after watching a movie on French cooking…

First a 8X8 or 9X9 inch baking dish is buttered and the oven is heated to 425.

Then make Cottage Pudding batter according to the recipe above…

1 1/2 cups flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 cup sugar are sifted or whisked together…

IMG_8986

Then 1 well beaten egg, 1/2 cup milk, and 1/2 cup melted butter are mixed …I melt the butter in the microwave , then add the other ingredients right into the measuring cup…

IMG_8990 IMG_8992

Stir gently into the flour mixture…

Mix 2 or more cups of blueberries with some lemon zest, sugar to taste (I used about 1/4 cup), a few grains of kosher salt, and 1 or 2 Tablespoons of flour…I just happened to have some Maine blueberries:)

IMG_8993-1

Spread the fruit in the baking dish, dot with butter, and spread the Cottage Pudding over the top…

Bake about 30 minutes.

I usually serve it with vanilla ice cream but this is what I had for breakfast the next day…

I know for a fact that it is very, very good made with fresh peaches too.
