A Walk in the Land Trust…

Last weekend we had such glorious weather that instead of working in the yard or on the boat Mr O and I decided to go for a hike…

The Land Trust is a place we haven’t hiked before…it begins at a historical cemetery…

…There was a carpet of lily of the valley…

IMG_3156

…and many wildflowers…

At the back of the graveyard there was a surprise hidden in the stonewall…

IMG_3161

I was so tempted to keep it…but left it for others to discover…

…knowing it would put a smile on someone’s face.

The entire length of the  trail was lined with wild mountain laurel on both sides…I’m hoping to return in one to two weeks when these tight buds will be in bloom…

If you walked off the path you would have to be careful…

IMG_3182-1

…because there were so many lady slippers it would be difficult not to step on one…

IMG_3172-1

At one point the trail opens up and overlooks Block Island Sound…It’s hard to believe how close Block Island looked…you could even see the white cliffs.  Mr O says things appear closer under certain environmental conditions…

I decided I needed a moss identification manual during the hike too…

Our hike took us a lot longer than we had originally intended…I was tired by the time we found our way back…and then we had to make a decision between ice cream shop or oyster bar…

Except for a little bit of cropping these photos are SOOC…straight out of the camera…I’m getting used to the manual settings…

Beautiful! And that rock is just too much...like a form of country graffiti. I love it.

Next time you go take a small painted rock and place it in the wall too. How fun would that be to continue to surprise people with smiley faces!

I loved the walk...just my kind of place. And what a bonus! That smiley face fit perfectly in the wall. You are doing very well with the manual settings, my dear. You may decide not to go back to auto.

I just planted some lily of the valley today that a friend gave me. I can't wait until it makes a carpet.

XOXO

What beautiful treaures you found along the way! The smiley face was fun but the flowers and web and view were magnificent.

What did you choose? It would have been a hard decision for me but I think oysters would have won out!

OH, but you did keep it. The pictures you took are the most perfect way to keep it. I am so glad you left it behind to delight others.

What a lovely walk! Ha ha for the smiley face, but love the spider web best (and the color of the lady's slippers, and the sea, even the lichens on those OLD gravestones). You and your camera are becoming quite comfortable together.

Lovely walk. Good you left smiley rock. The last image of the stone wall is so cool. I love the rock threshold. Good for you learning your manual settings!

i don't think derby ever went away....and i kind of wish i had had the chance to try it....if i did now, sure as heck, i'd break my wrist and then i wouldn't be able to hold my camera.....what a nightmare that would be!

thanks for the walk in the woods :)

Thanks for taking us on this walk with you! I especially enjoyed the deciduous forest as we (mostly) just have coniferous around here. We don't get that leafy goodness (or the history!)
