Flooding…

IMG_1680

Not only were all records of rainfall in RI shattered during the month of March, but my computer decided to breakdown too…

…so as the water rose in the basement and we tried to pump it out as fast as it came in…I could take photos but I couldn’t share them.

We were actually lucky… our furnace worked after the water receded, the road to town was reopened in two days, and we only lost power sporadically.   As for my computer….I finally got it back and I’ve been busy putting all the programs back in…

Just Rain…

IMG_5555-1

After three gloriously sunny days we are back to rain, thunder-storms, and chill…I was feeling rather glum about it, rather mildewy around the edges, when I read this while I was browsing in a bookstore, escaping from a sudden squall…

Just Rain by Mary Oliver

The clouds

  did not say

    soon, but who can tell

      for sure, it wasn’t

the first time I had been

  fooled; the sky-doors

    opened and

      the rain began

to fall upon all of us: the

  grass, the leaves,

    my face, my shoulders

      and the flowered body

of the pond where

  it made its soft

    unnotational

      music on the pond’s

springy surface, and then

the birds joined in and I too

    felt called toward such

      throat praise. Well,

the whole afternoon went on

  that way until I thought

    I could feel

      the almost born things

in the earth rejoicing. As for myself,

  I just kept walking, thinking:

    once more I am grateful

      to be present.

Her book “Evidence” went home with me…

Rainy Day Lunch…

While there were severe thunderstorms and flooding in RI, I was in Newburyport taking my sister and cousin to a birthday luncheon which turned out just fine in the rain…

The table was chosen for the view…and the wine was chosen for the label…

My cousin kindly took this photo of my sister and me…bundled up as though it was autumn instead of the first day of July!

The view was damp but beautiful…

June weather…

According to the Providence Journal on June 20,2009…

•April and May had only 3 clear days each, and there has been none so far in June.

•The average temperature in June has been 62.6, or 3.5 degrees cooler than normal.

•In the first 18 days of June, 12 were cooler than average and 6 were warmer than average.

•Precipitation for the year was 1.32 inches less than normal as of 6 p.m. Friday.

•In the 90 days since March 20, 55 have brought measurable rain or at least a trace of precipitation

All in all we were very happy to see the sun today…

Finally got the lawn mowed, screens put in the porch windows, the shed cleaned out, beach chairs put in the car just in case…

Sluggish…

…That is exactly how I am feeling while fighting a summer cold and living with this unusually chilly, damp weather…

Between the Raindrops…

I really do try to look on the bright side of events…Even though the rain is really starting to get to me, I try to see the beauty of the deep green, almost tropical look, of the New England woodland during this very wet and cool spring rather than worry about the water-logged irises. IMG_5420-1 I try to think of how much I’m getting done indoors rather than think about the overgrown lawn. I try to think about cooking a primavera vegetable lasagna without overheating the kitchen rather than cooking steaks on the new grill. I try to think of all the reading I’m finding time for rather than taking time for my daily walk….I really am trying…but I still hope for sun this weekend...

Fruit…

The constant, dreary, cold, and rainy weather is getting to me…I have had little inspiration for photos lately…just the weekly grocery shopping. I’m the only one in the household that eats much fruit but it was so beautiful and irresistible I’m afraid I overdid it and will be eating fruit for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert…

Rainy Day...

The sun tried to come out...
