Maine vacations always mean lots of hiking…
Our first day found Mr O and I hiking up the Asticou Terraces Trail to the Thuya Garden.
This is not only a short, sweet hike with a beautiful view of Northeast Harbor…
…but it also has the garden at the end as a reward.
Without children, we spent much more time relaxing in the garden than we did hiking…
It is a garden of perennials and raked paths.
Our second hike, up Penobscot Mtn Trail, was our most strenuous…undertaken before the younger children arrived…
The view…well a picture is worth a thousand words…
We try to do this hike each year…just to prove we can…This is our two family group…minus me.
This hike also has a reward at the summit… we get to cool off in Sargent Mt Pond…
We have learned to wear our bathing suits on this hike…
On the way back down the view is just as fine…
After the children arrived we did two hikes that our nearly five year old grandson could hike. The first was Flying Mt…
It has just enough challenge…and just as fantastic views.
The reward at the end of this hike is picnicking and wading on the shores of Somes Sound.
Our last hike on this trip was up Day Mt…
…another climb that is child friendly…
…and still has a beautiful view.
Maine is for hiking…

I know you didn't say "Wish you were here", but I wish I were! Beautiful views...I love hiking in Maine!
Those views are sooo refreshing...*sigh*... Like a BIG glass of water for the soul! :o) Happy Weekend ((HUGS))
Beautiful!! And everyone looks so happy, too!
So Beautiful! It's amazing how similar the shores of Maine and BC are. It looks like you had some wonderful family time together in the sunshine.
You said it, sister! Maine IS for hiking! And paddling and swimming and biking. Your photos are stunning! What a trip you had. We're going canoeing tomorrow on Sebago Lake, and next weekend is a trip up to Blue Hill for the Fair. I can never get enough of this time of year in Maine.
I hope we can meet up on one of your trips up here sometime!
xoxo Gigi
Maine. The very best place to be in the summer!
Wonderful photographs.
oh wow - so beautiful - and it looks like you all had the very best of times.
Glorious! Maine is an incredible place. Would love to hike any of those trails!
I smiled at your line about taking longer in the garden when the kids aren't with you. What a heart-filling hike that first one. Getting to the top for that view. I love the photo with the rocks framing the hikers. I was sad the one pic was minus you. But packing a tripod on the hike is probably out of the question?
So you're training the children very well, such cute little hikers! I just love this peek into your family hike. You really make me want to go to Maine, farther in than we got. And I think we need to do more hiking vacations.
I love the photo of everyone framed by the rock formation. Wait, I love all the photos.
What beautiful views!
After trying a few hikes in Yosemite I've learned I need to incorporate more uphill walking into my itinerary somehow. Huffing and puffing up a short trail made me feel wimpy!
What a marvelous time you've been having.
