A Knitting Giveaway…

After quite a few years away I have returned to knitting.  I learned how to knit  in high school in the 60’s when a very young English teacher both advised the cheerleaders and taught us knitting.  We adored her and avidly took up needles.

I started with a sweater with cables for my brother…I still have the pattern…and continued on.  I still have…and wear… the Irish cable knit sweater I knit 40 years ago!  At some point I stopped knitting but recently I started again with a few small projects.

First, I knit a scarf using yarn I had given my sister as a gift, thinking she might enjoy learning how to knit…she didn’t and I inherited the small ball of yarn.

After the scarf was finished I decided to knit some headbands for my daughters using up some old yarn in the storeroom.  I finished those in time for Christmas and then started some fingerless mitts for myself in order to use up another skein of yarn that I don’t even remember buying.

The  problem came up on the second mitt…because of the variegated yarn it was a different color than the first….so I knit a third.  Fortunately the third mitt matched the first and a later, fourth mitt matched the second.   I guess what I am trying  to explain is that I now have an extra pair of fingerless mitts that I would like to give to someone who would like them.

They are what I call Charlie Brown mitts because not one of the measurements is the the same…an amateur knit them and it looks it….If anyone would like a purplish pair of fingerless mitts let me know in the comments and I will draw a name on Friday, Feb 25.

Even though they acrylic rather than wool I can attest to their warmth and their convenience for taking photos.

I still have lots of left-over yarn so I will probably be knitting more…

You knit so beautifully! My mother has done this for as long as I can remember. She tried to teach me, but it is just not my thing. I would appreciate a pair as well :-).

I think you did a great job! Your 4 gloves sound very much like the 3 baby booties I crocheted. It's hard to get the gauge right every time on something that is supposed to match!

I don't suppose it gets cold enough here for me to use the gloves much...I'd rather someone got them who will use them as they deserve to be used...so I'll pass on the giveaway. Thanks for offering.

Oh, those would be perfect for snapping pictures in the cold outdoors! Count me in.

I tried teaching myself to knit a couple of years ago, and that, my friend, was a joke. Too bad we aren't neighbors, you could teach me!

I know I was excited and kept bugging you to do this giveaway, but now I'm thinking that I (and my children) have so many nice things knitted by you that I'd rather see someone else get a turn. I can also attest to the warmth and attractiveness of these mitts, though.

I would love a pair of your Charlie Brown fingerless gloves (chuckling). They're my favorite for taking photos when it's cold. But not too cold, mind you. My shutter finger gets too chilly.

I think your work is beautiful. I am able to knit simple things. I think the fingerless gloves might even be too complicated for me! (and i love that last photo - the colors are lovely and the composition is good).

You do such a beautiful job. I admire anyone who can knit. My aunt tried to teach me once. It didn't take. I would love to be included in your drawing.

Snapping pics outside as Susie said, or sitting here on some mornings at my laptop! They're beautiful. I really love your cables, my favorite pattern. Did you really knit that sweater in the photo of the boy (your brother)? Wow. And the headbands are gorgeous, what colors!

Your headbands are beautiful and is that your brother wearing the sweater you made in the photograph?

I can't knit for beans. I've tried, but nothing comes out right. I'd love a pair of fingerless mittens for use next winter while out taking photographs!

I would love to be included. Those look SO great! My mother in law has tried, in vain, to teach me to knit. I have crocheting down, but knitting... I just can't seem to master it.

Have a great day!
