Watermelon Days…

We have been enjoying watermelon here in Arcadia….

Untitled-2

I created this diptych  for CBC’s word prompt “Picnic”.  It was the first time I made one in Photoshop and I will not admit how long it took me to figure it out… That white cup under Mr J’s arm is annoying me but I find those watermelon juice lines and his little smile in the shadows precious.

Am I the only one that misses the seeds and thinks that the old seedfull watermelons were sweeter even if slightly annoying?   How will children ever learn about seed spitting contests?   Also, I find it interesting that we are now notified that we may find an occasional seed even as we are learning that we may be reducing our risk of heart disease.  I admit that I investigated www. watermelon.org., and while I enjoyed reading the history of watermelon and learning that seedless watermelon does not involve genetic modification I was horrified at this recipe for watermelon jelly logs .  In all fairness I did find this recipe for a Watermelon Cosmopolitan that sounded like something I would try.

After an afternoon of grandchildren I was still left with plenty of watermelon for one of my favorite summer salads since 1995 when I first found it in the newspaper…so easy and so so yummy…

Classic summer, kids and watermelon!
This recipe sounds wonderful - watermelon and cheese I would not have thought of myself.

i bought this year's first watermelon this week...and yes, it was the seedless kind! I wish I could eat it with no shirt on ... lol! Beautiful grandchildren!

A SWEET post! The photos of the babies streamed with red juice are fantastic, just perfect.

A watermelon cosmo? Oh yes!

To remove seeds from watermelon in any way but with the mouth is ridiculous if you ask me. For one thing, they lose all their aesthetic appeal. What good is a painting of a piece of watermelon without black seeds? I ask you!

Please, Oliag, please use picnik.com to create collages. It takes like 10 seconds - brilliant. But brava to you for figuring it out in PS, something I have not done.

So good it drips down your body... oh, to be so young again and go round topless...LOL! I make a similar watermelon salad--I love your addition of mint! Oh, these are great summer photos... Happy Days ((HUGS))

That's the way I like to eat my watermelon! JK! I do keep my shirt on in front of the children. ;-}

The watermelons have been really good. We've had 2 already. The family was here Sunday and I cut one up and it was gone in 20 minutes. I wish I had bought two! David and I like to have it for breakfast as it makes us older folks have to get up too often if we eat it in the evening.

The grands are delightful with their watermelon faces!

I agree with you about the seeded ones. They do taste sweeter.

And a little vodka and Cointreau would make a tasty addition to watermelon juice!

I've been thinking of running over to the fruit and vegetable stand to see if they have watermelons yet...now I've got to. Mmmmm. I'm intrigued by the salad recipe as well. The mixture of flavors sounds really interesting.

I also love the watermelon juice running all over him. It makes me smiley happy.

And, isn't CBC wonderful? Picnic is the only one I haven't completed. I have to go to the store, first. Yours is wonderful.
