A Bench….

IMG_1639-2

One day, during my sister’s illness, she asked me to go with her for a walk along the river at a nearby park.   There she mentioned that rather than having a headstone in a cemetery she would like to have a memorial where people could bring a dog, rest, picnic, enjoy beauty, contemplate life, and remember her.  Today marks one year since her death.  The river flows on just in front of her bench…

I've always thought that a bench placed in a beautiful spot is the perfect way to remember a loved one. What a peaceful and lovely spot this is to rest and feel supported by your sisters memories and love. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Beautiful. The perfect memorial: to provide rest to someone else.

It's interesting this is the anniversary, and you posted this today, as I just had the notion this morning to go back to Hoffmaster Beach over Christmas break and wander the trails to the sand dunes in the beautiful wintertime, and there is a memorial bench there that means a lot to me, though I don't know the person it's for.

See?

what an amazing tribute. this really touched me. a dear friend just told me this is her wish too. So many people will use this bench and read her name. she will live on forever in this place. think of all the memories that will be created here. this is just beautiful.

That bench has energy..good energy

What a beautiful and meaningful memorial to your sister! I have often been thankful to rest in such benches in a park. When I read the name on the dedication I always say a little prayer for that person.

So, so sorry for your loss. But thank you for giving the ongoing memory of her to others. I always like finding these benches, and know the life the person lived must have been worth celebrating.

I think public gifts are the most beautiful tributes. My favorite is a telescope in Oregon at a state park. It's remarkable.

This is so touching and beautiful. What a wonderful memorial to your precious sister. I would like to do something like that for mine. She didn't want a headstone either. Thank you for this, dear friend.
