Feline Aids…

…is something I never heard of until yesterday.  My ten year old cat, Miss Sally, seemed to have a red watery eye all weekend , which I ignored due to a house full of guests…and Sally tends to hide when we have guests.  Tuesday I got an appointment at the vets and Sally was diagnosed with feline uveitis…an inflammation inside the eye.  The question that now needs to be answered is why did she develop this infection…A battery of tests were taken and today I heard that my cat tested positive for Feline immunodeficiency virus.   Tomorrow I talk to the vet again…

…Today I am having fun hiding pills in sardines and putting eye drops in eyes…

I have a female cat, a Korat. She had a growth on top of her head and the Veterinary School of Georgia said that it was cancerous that she had the feline immu virus and would not live more than 6 months. That was 3 or 4 years ago. We did nothing, just had the growth cut off. I went to an international cat show and a Korat breeder told me that these tests were very unreliable. I hope that this is the same for your cat. I would get a second opinion for sure.

I forgot to tell you that we had two tests done at the time and they were positive, so we kept her downstairs and the other cat upstairs. Three years passed and after the Cat Show we had her tested again for the Aid virus, and it came back negative. So, I have no idea if she got over it or never had it, but she is fine.

We have a cat we nurse everyday. I know it takes time, but that nice purr is worth it. I hope Miss Sally is feeling better soon!

You're fortunate it was diagnosed early. I had a labrador with a similar thing and she was a huge problem. A lovely happy girl but constantly at the vet before they found out what it was. She managed with it eventually but we had to keep our eye on her.

Such a sweet face! How awful to be going through that. We have one cat who is also on a regimen of pills (also shots, and ear drops; he takes it well, to his credit). The vet recommended hollow treats into which we roll the meds. He looks forward to them 3x/day--actually purrs! So if the sardines ever stop working...

First, thanks so much for stopping by my blog. Secondly, our cat was diagnosed with this as well six years ago and she is healthy and strong. She is now 14. Wishes of health for your cat as well. :)
