Our Puerto Rico Vacation – Day 7 – Old San Juan

Our group spent the last full day in Puerto Rico walking up and down and all around Old San Juan.  I am in love with the old city, its walls, its forts, its statues, its food, and its spectacular views.  Rather than try and describe what I loved I will just share some of my favorite photos.

At the beginning of our vacation we were unsure if we would enjoy traveling in a group but by the end of vacation we had decided it was a great way to get an introduction to a new place.  It was nice not to have to worry about making plans and reservations. It was nice to have different knowledgeable local experts guide us on each leg of the trip.  It was nice to get so much accomplished in each day.   And it was nice to get to know some very nice fellow travelers.  We would do it again.

I am like you, I think, unsure if I would like a travel group. But I am also like you in that I think I would have loved this for the reasons you list. I mean, there are groups and there are groups, you know? This isn't like the tourist buses that people load on at 9AM sharp . . .

These are wonderful photos, giving a real sense of the place, and the people. Love those red-shirted kids frolicking!! And that pretty, happy lady on cobblestones getting to know San Juan in the nooks and crannies!

Thanks so much for sharing your encounters in Puerto Rico. I have enjoyed it.

I love all the color in your photos and the architecture and the stone. I'm glad that you had such a wonderful time.

I'm off to read more of the posts I've missed about your trip.

I really enjoyed seeing these photographs and your views and thoughts on the country. It's not one I would have thought about going to before but it's piqued my interest!

We've done one small group tour (with Gap Adventures to Guatemala...14 people) and really enjoyed it but until then I too was a bit apprehensive about doing the group travel thing. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your experience too.

Well, I went back and discovered all of your marvelous photographs of your trip (love the video when you kayaked through the mangroves; the sound of the water so soothing). How luscious and lovely and strange and familiar all at once! I could smell the sea, feel the heat, hear those young boys laughing, and delight in the joy of that beautiful lady of the cobblestones. What a fabulous trip you had! Thank you for sharing it.

Your photos are so beautiful! The colors, the steamy heat, the antiquity -- you captured them so wonderfully! You've made me want to go to Old San Juan.

I swear! You could be a photographer for National Geographic Traveler. Really. I'm serious.
