Partly because my computer is getting old and slow I haven’t been playing with textures on my photos recently. Photoshop especially slows the whole thing down so I need plenty of time if I am going to bother with it. This is when this persistently rainy weather comes in handy. These dark and rainy days have not been inspiring for taking walks or taking photos or cleaning the house so I have had extra time to spend with PS and decided to enter
Kim Klassen’s Cafe Texture Tuesday this week. The photo used had to include at least one layer of her texture “Yesteryear” which was offered as a free download…she is very generous like that….and it will be fun to see all the many different uses it will inspire. Mine are very simple with one layer of texture and the texture brushed away from the flowers. I am still very fearful of overdoing it. I find that half the battle seems to be in finding the right photo to go with the texture.
Next I will try to learn how to apply a “rollover” to show the original as well as the processed photo….That is for another rainy Monday.
Tuesday night addendum....The Rollover!!
Roll your mouse over the photo to see my goldfinch photo with and without an added texture.

lovely images - I agree that selecting the right photo is a large part of the process -
Beautiful - I would love to learn how to do the rollover technique too!
Terrific texture work!!
glad to be following you now!
so lovely!!
Really love your textured photos here!
sometimes playing on a rainy day is just better than chocolate.....well not really, but close :)
Your photos are gorgeous! You did a great job with your texture. I'd like to figure out that rollover thing too :)

I am still having a hard time with "texturizing" photos, but you have done a beautiful job.
oh a lovely rainy day activity ..
Very nice--one of my favorite rainy day activities:)
I miss being able to do rollovers. For some reason they don't work with Windows Live Writer anymore. Darn nice photos, though.
.sigh.
Simply and stunningly gorgeous. That first photo knocks me out. So does the second. And the third.
:-)
I really, really like your gentle touch with this yesteryear texturizer.
I want to sing now!
There is so much to learn about photography ans editing! Someday I will buy Photoshop and try to learn new techniques such as this. I loved the "rollover" effect! The bouquet if violets is such a beautiful photo!
My camera skills and editing capabilities don't begin to match yours, but I do appreciate the advanced work of others. This is my first visit to your blog, but I'll definitely be back. I really enjoyed the time I spent here. I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary

You has some LOVELY images to work with here...yes, you are right when you say getting the right image...with the right texture is the trick.
I am partially disabled, so don't get out much to photograph...so I have to set up still lifes here in the house...which takes a lot of my ENERGY to say nothing of the time it takes me to "gather" things for it..so I try to keep it pretty simple now.
You work in beautiful.

oh so pretty! (and congrats again on winning the Picture Color giveaway).
Beautiful images and beautiful blog - I think I'll stay a while.
rainy days are good sometimes. :) You have done a great work. I don´t know how you work, but I usually downsize the photos before working in Elements or PS. As you say, they become huge in there. But downsizing beforehand makes it a litle bit easier.
Wow, I'm impressed, Gail! I would LOVE to know how to do this. I have been playing with textures as well as my Photoshop watercolor filters and would love to be able to use the rollover effect for my blog. So if it starts raining again and you have a second, I would love a mini-lesson. I also like the way you have the drop-shadow added to your images. Haven't figured out how to do that either! Thanks for any help you can give me. Sure enjoyed my visit to your blog.
Ooooo... I do love the way you spend your rainy days. WOW!
Absolutely beautiful! I agree there's a fine line between enhancing and overdoing...you did it just right. Of course you did. :)
so pretty. i would love to spend a rainy day with you.. any day, really. ; )
