Lars and the Real Girl…

Every once and awhile I see a movie that I just loved and don’t want to forget…Lars and the Real Girl struck me that way. I had this on my Netflix list for so long that I didn’t remember why I added it on in the first place…didn’t remember which review I read that got me interested…didn’t remember reading the plot line…didn’t remember if it was considered comedy or drama…Now I don’t know why I didn’t read more about it when it first came out. Sometimes you just need a movie that makes you smile…

It is funny, but it is more than a comedy. It is a very sweet and very quirky story of how a family and town reacts to the delusions of a lonely man. Well written and well acted, it doesn’t shove the reasons for or the consequences of the delusion in your face but lets answers slowly develop…Do I think a town this caring really exists? …No, but if it did I would want to live there…

Things I liked about this movie:

  • Ryan Gosling…he made it real…

awkward

  • The costumes…the sweaters! I couldn’t find a picture of the “horse vest”

A scene from Lars and the Real Girl.

  • The accepting community – at church, work, or the mall!

  • And the screenplay by Nancy Oliver…I always enjoyed Six Feet Under too…

I loved this movie! I wrote a post recommending it way back when I saw it too. Sweet and quirky are exactly how I would describe it myself. A girlfriend came over and watched it with me. We both laughed and laughed.

Yes! I saw this movie last winter, and I loved it, too! A couple of other movies that had a quirky appeal for me were Danny Deckchair and Dan in Real Life. xo

I took this movie out of the library to watch recently, but made the mistake of watching it too late at night and I feel asleep! It was a little slow going in the beginning, wasn't it? I've heard so many good things about it though that I'll borrow it again. Thanks for the review!

PS: I'd love to see your Sam Adams Brewery tour if you do go, because if it's good I'll add it to my list of "must sees" in Boston the next time we take a trip up there. I love that city, even thought the Red Sox are there..lol!

We watched it in the winter too and loved it. I thought the script did a great job, and the actors too, of exploring different human emotions. The characters are so well developed it has stayed with me, and there aren't that many films that do that for me. Glad you loved it too!
