Before traveling to Maine Mr O , my sister, and I visited Mrs R while she was at work in the Boston Public Library…She works for the company that caters any events held there…
Her office is in the older part of the library…designed by McKim, Mead, and White, it was finished in 1895. We enjoyed taking a self-guided tour of this beautiful building… and we think it would be a wonderful place to have a party!
The main staircase had a beautiful golden glow from the yellow marble…at one point there were architecture students sitting on the stairs drawing….Most visitors were taking pictures of the lions…
The Abbey Room is dark … with a mural painting, “The Quest of the Holy Grail”, surrounding the room…
The reading rooms …well they were just as quiet and peaceful as they were gorgeous…
Hidden in the center of the library is a courtyard…we bought lunch at the library’s Map Room Cafe and brought sandwiches outside by the fountain…Not only were visitors like myself taking pictures, but a professional photographer was there meeting several clients…it was fun to watch him and his assistant while we ate…
Right next door to the library is the Prudential Center…It was such a clear day we decided to go to the restaurant at the top for the view…and a Cosmopolitan…
I do think Mrs R has a very interesting and exciting job…

I do, too! What a beautiful place she works in. Boston is such an amazing city.
she does indeed! what a lovely place to work in. i especially like the lions.
There is something about going to work in all that beauty everyday that has to be inspiring! I wish we had libraries around here that look like that!
I would be in heaven working in such a fabulous library! Really awe inspiring!
what a beautiful worksetting - how wonderful. Gorgeous shots.
What a great workplace! Thank you for sharing this marvelous find, your photography is superb.
What a gorgeous library--lucky Mrs. R!! Thanks for sharing. I do love Boston...
What a beautiful library! Your photos are all lovely. I agree Mrs R is indeed lucky.
Those cosmos look good too! :-)
Oh, those reading rooms!!
Pure heaven, don't you think?!
oliag ...this is a lovely tour...your photos are so varied and I know the library aroma of books was ever present!
Every view is eye candy, and I can feel the richness from here. The marble and all the architectural features are so very pleasing. There's something too about reading in a room with all that ceiling above you, and a little green reading lamp just above. Makes me want to move to Boston. Great post!
Country Girl - Now that Mrs R is living in Boston I hope to vist the city more often and get to know it better...
Kamana - The lions were indeed beautiful and were being photographed left and right...they were sculpted by Saint-Gaudens...
NineAcres - Can you imagine getting married in that setting? My daughter arranges events there...
steviewren - Lately I've been wishing I was a librarian rather than a nurse...much prettier settings!
Char - Thanks! I love getting a compliment on my photography from you... your photos are such an inspiration for me!
MaggieGem - Thanks....Getting exposures correct was difficult for me that day...it was very bright outside and no flash allowed inside...
ds - She is indeed lucky although I'm not sure how much she gets to appreciate the peacefulness there...
Pat - I'm hoping to get to enjoy visiting Boston as much as I did Brooklyn!...and the Cosmos were perfect:)
PT&E - Oh I agree...Heaven indeed!
elk - not only the smell but the sound too...the sound of people quietly reading...
Ruth - Thank you so much...since starting this blog I find that I appreciate the graphic art of photographic layouts although I find it difficult to do with the tools I use in Windows Live Writer and Blogger...your blog influences me:)
I visited a library, too, on my mini holiday. But its architectural features were mostly outside - which you cannot enjoy while working inside. What a lovely place to work (and sit).
And to think....this was just the start of your vacation! Mrs. R is a very lucky woman to work in such a beautiful building in the heart of Boston and with such an exciting job!
Lovely picture of you and your sister, Oliag.
VioletSky - I found the outside of this library too massive to photograph...oh for a wide angle lens!
Susan - Thank you!...my sister was always considered the photogenic one...probably because I always had my eyes closed:)...It amazes me how much we look alike as we get older...we never looked alike when we were growing up...
hi beautiful! i would love to have that job. bliss~
incredible pics.
