Maine 1…

IMG_7454
We know our Maine vacation has started when we stop at Young’s Lobster Pound in Belfast for steamers and lobster rolls…We have learned to stop beforehand to stock up on Shipyard Ale…

Every year we debate why steamers and lobsters are so much sweeter in Maine than they are in RI…
IMG_7455
Maybe it’s because of the colder water…maybe it’s because it is cooked in salt water….maybe it’s because we are on vacation…

…so yummy they didn’t need that melted butter…

The last few years Young’s has been an annual stop…both coming and going if possible.

Oh my.

Forgive this land lubber - are steamers just clams? Your images are perfect, I feel that I'm sitting at table with your husband and he's about to put that one dipped in butter straight into my mouth. . . erm, your mouth. I thought I was hungry, but now I feel sort of full. Two words for the lobster roll: YUM MY!

Lalalalala, I'm happy now. And it is so true about eating outside on vacation - everything tastes so good.

erm, okay, another one who doesn't really know what steamers are.

Still it looks like I might have to wander down that way to find out! That lobster roll looks messy and delish.

I am the only one in my family who would partake of lobster while in Maine! It is no fun eating it by yourself!

You and I are such New England girls! That's just one of the many reasons I love reading your blog. I grew up in Maine, but I haven't lived there in about 17 years (I can hardly believe it!). This fall, though, my husband and I will be moving back there for four months to live on an island and write. We leave on Tuesday, and I can barely wait! Your wonderful photos just make me all the more anxious. I agree with you, too, about the sweetness of Maine lobsters and steamers. I've lived in RI as well, and I think nothing can beat the taste of Maine steamers.
Okay, now I'm hungry! xoxo

The lobster looks delish. I've never had clams I don't think. Wonderful vacation pictures.

Oh, yum!! The best place to eat lobster (and steamers) is outside...I could taste the butter, too.

Gee thanks, Oliag! Now there's a big puddle of drool all over my keyboard! LOL

Oh my goodness, that's the most delicious-looking lobster roll I have EVER seen! It looks so tender and juicy....I have to get back to Maine!

Oh, be still my heart! I love lobster roll, and steamed clams dipped in just a little butter. I am drooling now, although I just had dinner!

Ruth - Steamers are just soft shelled clams...the kind that have long necks and are destined for the pot:) Mr O was very helpful for that picture and followed instructions well... "hold it this way...no higher...maybe lower...maybe with a nicer background..."

VioletSky -I don't think I would eat clams if I lived inland, away from the ocean...I do love to test lobster rolls when ever I get the chance:)

NineAcres - Lobster is a hard sell to children...but your husband wouldn't either?...I think you are right that it is a very social meal...

Gigi - A trip to London and now four months on a Maine island!...Life can be unfair at times:) ...That was the reason I first enjoyed reading your blog too...very New Englandy!...I can't wait to read the posts from Maine...if you have electricity on that island:)

steviewren -Thanks!...and clams can be difficult to swallow if you aren't used to them:)

ds - People bring tablecloths, glassware, wine, and all the extras to the picnic tables outside the lobster pound...Lobster alfresco...

Susan - I have to say that this is one time that it tasted as good as it looked...

CountryGirl - Maybe you were sitting at the table next to me and I didn't know it!
