Mother's Cold Remedy...

IMG_1768-1

When I was a child my mother made cough syrup for me with honey, lemon juice, and a little whiskey...when I grew older tea was added...Strong hot tea with a shot of whiskey, a squeeze of lemon, and a good spoonful of honey not only relieves  coughs and congestion but it also helps one sleep like a baby...

That would be "kidding," of course. And I haven't even had any of your mom's cough medicine! :D

We were teetotalers in our family. I remember being shocked when I discovered that my grandmother kept whiskey for a hot toddy.

In my family they would skip the tea and lemon... "if you can't kill the germs at least show 'em a good time" :-)

I still use that remedy!

Oh dear, are you needing this after your walk?

Like a hot toddy?

Sounds wonderful.

When we get a sore throat, we make ginger tea with lemon, honey, and slices of ginger. I always add a clove of garlic and one dried red pepper too, to clear the nostrils.

I hope you're not sick.

My stepfather made his with whiskey and rock candy. He tried to make me take some once and I almost barfed! Still can't stand the smell of whiskey!

I hope yours cures what is ailing you! ((hugs))

Oh, that is good to know! I could use that right about now.

Yep. This is perfect. I've had a wicked cold, and I've been doing another surefire brew: boiled ginger root with lemon and raw honey stirred into it. It helps so much and makes me feel stronger!
