Late Bloomer...

I planted this amaryllis bulb in early December hoping to have a bloom by Christmas...

...at Christmas it was still completely dormant...

...after the New Year I nearly threw it out...

...I was sure it was a dud...

...in the middle of January it finally sent out a shoot with a bud...

...altho I have had prettier, more spectacular amaryllis...

...I have probably enjoyed this one the most...

...I certainly have had a lot of fun photographing its progress...

...it is just starting to fade now...

I've never grown one - this is a beauty, even if it was a late starter.

I have some amaryllis in my flowerbeds. I dug them up at my grandmother's house after she died. Some years they do very well and others they don't. I hope this is a good year. Love the shot of the bloom in front of the window looking out on the snowy yard. Great set-up!

How beautiful! A bit of color in the gray of winter. I'll have to try growing one next year.

I hope you do get a chance to see an opera at the Met! I believe the season ends in May. The staging is so spectacular and the orchestra is divine...it really is an experience.

Lovely photos of this beauty. I had two Amaryllis' I was keeping track of - I love their majesty.

(I must have dreamt my comment, since it seems I didn't actually 'publish' it the first time I read this!)
