Making Bread...

A snowy day is a good day for baking bread...

The oven warms up the kitchen...
...and the yeasty smell fills the house...
There's always a feeling of accomplishment...

...and there is a reward to be thankful for...

Ohh, again, oh dear. Our friend just made us a loaf that looked like this (it's gone now), as a thank you for giving him eggs. I was already feeling wistful about the beauty of a homey round loaf. And here you are.

We have to make some. My husband did buy yeast . . .

OMG, I love bread. Your countertops, bread bowl and cutting board compliment this beautiful loaf!

That is lovely bread! Do you use the recipe on the King Arthur bag? I think it's very good for a 100% whole wheat bread.

Ruth - I would give anything for fresh eggs! Friends of ours used to raise chickens for eggs but the local foxes got the best of them:(

Country Girl - Thanks! I have a small collection of those bread boards...if you can call 3 a collection!

Susan - This time I used a recipe from Smitten Kitchen which she took from "The Bread Baker's Apprentice"...a nice light whole wheat..

VioletSky - You would be more than welcome! I've been thinking of making marmalade...

ELK - Guess your mom baked bread? Lucky you..my mom was a good cook but she never tried bread...

Pat - Well maybe grandbabies!

Char - Thanks! Taking pictures with indoor lighting is a challenge for me...

Leslie - I think the main reason I bake is for the smells!...Thanks about the header! They have been put to a lot of use this year...

I haven't made bread in years. Just last weekend I was thinking about making some sometime soon. My favorite part is the hot crust with butter slathered all over it. Mmmmmmm.
