The Pursuit of Happiness…

Deciding how I was going to spend this 4th of July holiday was not easy for me this year.  For the past 59 years I always knew that I would be spending the day celebrating my sister’s birthday and this would be the first that I have spent without her.  I thought of going away…but happily ended up spending time with my daughters, their husbands,  my grandchildren…and of course Mr O.

We had a peanut hunt…I can remember doing this at my grandmother’s house when I was their age.

Some of us got wet.

Some tried to relax.

We grilled.

And we played with sparklers.

A peanut hunt--what fun! And sparklers. A fine celebration, indeed!

It looks like you all had a fun and relaxing day. So sorry about your sister. I'm sure you miss her everyday.

One of my granddaughter's shares a birthday with our country as well. I wonder if she will grow up thinking all the fireworks are just for her.

Has it been a year aleady? We have sparklers on the Queen's Birthday weekend in June but fireworks, very illegal here so you have to go somewhere where public diplays are put on. The kids are priceless and I think that's the cleanest grill I've ever seen!

Perfect. I never heard of a peanut hunt. Do the squirrels compete too?

It must have been hard this year, I'm sorry. But you filled the day with bright lights, and love. Great!

Your day looked very relaxing and the grands looked like they had a ball. Peanut hunts are new to me, but I will be trying one of those soon. Thank you for the idea.

The best way to fill such a loss is with the ones you hold dear. It works for me. ((hugs))

I love the idea of a peanut hunt...I've never heard of it before. I always think that the smaller celebrations with close family and friends are the best.

It must have been ao difficult for you this year and I'm glad you found a way to celebrate that brought joy into the day.

Spending time with grandchildren is the perfect antidote to sadness, and I'm sure your sister would approve. It looks like a wonderful holiday!
