Spring ephemerals and tadpoles...

These pictures were taken during a recent walk near my home...a little swampy at this time of year...

Spring ephemerals are blooming...I think this may be a false rue anemone...

...they grow in clusters...

The beech trees have finally dropped last years leaves....

...and this year's leaves are starting to unfurl...

The skunk cabbage is bright green and completely open...

Ferns in their fiddlehead stage...

...are starting to unfurl...

...And the vernal pools are full of polliwogs...

I've been admiring the fiddleheads next to our house. Everything is jumping and popping. The little leaves are so sweet at this time. Beeches are among my favorites, and they certainly do hand on to last season's leaves a long while. I have a big ole beech friend just across from my university building, so gorgeous. I'll go out check out its new leaves this week (I don't pass it coming in from the parking ramp.)

Kamana - The flora here is certainly different from your part of the world...

westcobich - Thanks...I wish I had a real macro lens...

Tracy - ...another sign of spring...I buy the fiddleheads to eat when they are available in the market...but I have been afraid to harvest my own...

Char - Thank you...It means a lot from you:)

ds - These tadpoles are still pretty small... Tadpole or polliwog?

Donalyn - Two daughters...two grandchildren...we have a lot in common!

Susan - Got your tag...coming soon:)

Ruth - I've always loved nature and walks but since I started photographing them I've noticed the little things more...like how fuzzy some of the fiddleheads are...and how long the beech trees hang on to their leaves...

Delwyn - We are enjoying the spring green here...
